It’s probably something everyone is sick of hearing by now, but the year is flying by already! My brain is still stuck back in January, and the days seem to be passing without me noticing!
I’ve still been working on my movie review video, though I seem to be making slow progress. (snail’s pace, seriously) Writing the reviews went fine, and I really enjoyed making the drawings to go along with them, but I hit a bit of a wall when it came to the voiceover- the thing that always trips me up when I think about doing videos!
I got a new microphone, (since my old one started to crackle and buzz every time I used it) and although the audio quality was noticeably better, I still have this weird aversion to the way my voice sounds. So, I came up with an idea to hide it slightly…
Background music!
To be honest, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it earlier! As long as it isn’t too loud and distracting, I think a wee bit of a tune in the background works well for most YouTube videos anyway.
However, in the same way that I’m wary of using the movie footage, I’m also wary of using pre-existing music. I looked into the copyright free music that a lot of people use, and though most people got on fine, there were still a few comments saying that they were given a strike for using it, despite having the label of ‘no-copyright’.
I don’t really want to risk it, especially since it’ll be my first ever video on this new channel, so it’d be really disheartening to have it taken down.
So the only thing left to do is to just make my own! It probably (definitely) won’t sound as good as the professional stuff, but at least I surely can’t get copyright strikes for using something I made myself? Well, I hope so… YouTube can be a bit crazy sometimes.
I’ve taken notions to try doing something with music before, so thankfully I already had a copy of FL Studio, and I’ve spent the past week making a little ditty for the first review on the list, Netflix’s animated Marmaduke movie.

I’ve been looking at this photo of the characters to get inspiration for the ‘vibe’, and quite frankly my eyes are burning and my mind is speaking in brass instruments, but I’m quite happy with how it turned out!
I won’t lie though, the music idea has seriously slowed down my pace. At the rate I’m going at, it’ll be 2025 and I’ll still be banging on about what I watched in 2022!
But I guess the more time I spend on it, and the more work I put in, the more proud I can be when I see the finished product!
Photo Prompt!
(Oh, and that little weekend trip to Stirling probably didn’t help my speed, but hey, it was my birthday, so I think I can make an allowance!)

Plus, I took a few pictures that I can probably use for paintings or something, so I guess I can count that as work!
Either way, thank you very much for reading, and I’ll hopefully be back soon for another post!
Im right there with you about hearing your own voice. I started (attempting) to record my book for audible, and going through the same growing pains. Im on chapter 6, and can j

At least it’s not just me! I guess it’s something that probably gets better if you just make yourself do it for a while : )
